We all love the ocean and even explored the universe and examined stars and planets, but in fact we don’t even know everything about our own ocean floor is all about. We are already in a process of killing it and all the creature in it without knowing what are the creatures below our islands that has been acknowledged. Here are a few of its wonderful and monster like beings below we did not see all the time :

1. Tremoctopus (Blanket Octopus)

Tremoctopus (Blanket Octopus)

Magical attributes are:

  • Immune to Portuguese man o’ war.
  • Females reach up to 2 meters in length.
  • Males have a special third “right” arm that stores sperm.
  • Males die shortly after mating, because said arm detaches from the male and crawls into the mantle of the female in order to fertilize the eggs.

2. Glaucus Atlanticus (Blue Dragon Seaslug)

Blue Dragon Seaslug

Scary facts about this cute creature:

  • It feasts on Portuguese Man o’ Wars.
  • Delivers painful sting to any human who dare touches it.
  • Consumes poisonous organisms and stores their poison for its personal use.

3. Ctenophora (Comb Jelly)

3. Ctenophora (Comb Jelly)

Technical specifications of the USS Ctenophora:

  • Can grow from 1 milimeter to 1.5 meters (4 feet 11 inches)
  • No brain. They make use of decentralized nerve network to function.
  • Needs water flow to go through their body cavity in order to respire and digest.

4. Sternoptychidae (Deep Sea Hatchetfish)

4. Sternoptychidae (Deep Sea Hatchetfish)

The horror:

Size ranges from 1.1 inch to 4.7 inches long.
By night they move up to 50-100 meters where they can view the stars. By daybreak they dive to up to 3,600 meters.
They spawn on open water.
Their life spans do not go beyond one year.
Magic ability: bio-luminescent counter-illumination. Meaning, they produce light to match their surroundings in order to hide their presence.

5.Glass Squid

6. Northern Stargazer

Northern Stargazer

The Northern Stargazer is found between the states of North Carolina and New York, often between the depths of 100 to 120 feet (36m). Its mouth faces up in order to ambush its prey while hiding under sand. Aside from the scary face, the Stargazer can also deliver an electric shock to its prey.

7. Nudibranch

Nudibranch

Nudibranch are cool in a way that they shed their shells after their larval stage. Which, in turn, gave them the name Nudibranch, which comes from the Latin word nudus, naked, and Greek brankhia for gills. Aside from being one of the most colorful creatures on earth, Nudibranch leverages chemicals for their protection. Toxins that can induce hpotension in a predator and such.

8. Odontodactylus Scyllarus (Peacock Mantis Shrimp)

Odontodactylus Scyllarus (Peacock Mantis Shrimp)

Call it beautiful and fancy, but many consider it as a dangerous pest. They are predators whose size span from 1.2 to 7.1 inches (3 to 18 cm) with the belly of a beast. They will feast upon other inhabitants of tanks (mind you, because of their color, people collect them and treat them as pets!). Since they can grow as large as the size of an average banana, bigger specimens are also known to ram into aquariums.

9. Neoclinus Blanchardi (Sarcastic Fringehead)

Neoclinus Blanchardi (Sarcastic Fringehead)

Aside from the scary appearance and funny name, you need to know that the Sarcastic Fringehead is overly territorial. It will wrestle intruders (and by wrestle, I mean kiss with that beautiful lips) to achieve dominance. They grow up to 12 inches long (30 cm). Perfect pet for baby demons

10. Scaly Dragonfish

Browsing in some of my favorite stuffs, saw this very unique experiment from a site and it really wanna make me try one of this with my kid one of these days 🙂

AMAZING EXPERIMENT

AMAZING EXPERIMENT

Here is the instruction :

“Put some wax in the bottom of a fireproof glass container.

Add some sand.

Fill it up with cold water.

Now carefully heat the bottom.

Eventually, the wax underneath starts to boil (representing the moulten rocks under the Earth’s crust) and it begins to lift the whole landscape above in a dome shape.

Then, the moment of truth – the pressure becomes too much and at the weakest point, where the sand has bubbles, the hot wax shoots out in a lovely volcanic explosion. The entire wax reservoir empties and you get a lovely effect of a flattened top as well, representing how material from the volcanic explosion forms a layer of ash in the atmosphere.”

Enjoy !

THE MOST COLORFUL TREE ON EARTH May 8, 2013

You might think this tree has paints on it but its all from natures gift on us. This gorgeous tree is called Eucalyptus deglupta, commonly known as the “Rainbow Eucalyptus” , and also known as the Mindanao Gum, or the Rainbow Gum. Its multi-coloured streaks on its body comes from patches of outer bark that are shed annually at different times, showing the bright-green inner bark. This then darkens and matures to give blue, purple, orange and then maroon tones.

Old to new

Eucalyptus deglupta is the only Eucalyptus species found naturally in the Northern Hemisphere. It grows naturally in New Britain, New Guinea, Ceram, Sulawesi and Mindanao. Now, this tree is cultivated widely around the world, mainly for pulpwood used in making paper, and also for ornamental purposes.

I saw a lot of colourful stuff on the net and different kinds of arts all around the web and this one is very unique and creative enough to

make some abstract idea from a simple set of reflections.
